The auto headlamps are SUPER quick.
Saw one on the highway last night, and noted that it was getting dim out and he should have his headlights/running lights on and just then he passed under an overpass. The SECOND he did, his lights came on. Thinking it a odd coincidence to my thought stream, the SECOND he came back into the light, they turned off. Then it happened under the next three bridges before I took my exit.
I've seen automatic headlights come on quickly when the photo sensors see the darkness of an overpass or tunnel, but never have I seen them turn back off so quickly.

I would bet it is because they want to conserve electricity. They don't have an alternator to give them 'free' electricity, so the use of electricity is at a premium.
Other automakers probably leave it on for longer because they don't want the lights to be constantly turning on and off. They wait a couple seconds to see what other changes the car will be going through before saying it is safe to turn the lights off.
